Metro in Sofia - reliability and efficiency with TN materials
In mid-April was completed construction of the III metro diameter in the capital of Bulgaria. The leadership of the Sofia Metro promises that the first section, with a total length of about 4 kilometers, will be launched by mid-May. In total, it is planned to build 16 kilometers of metro-way and to construct 16 stations that will connect the South-west and North-east of the city.
For many years, the metro has been considered one of the main modes of transport in large cities - speed and the ability to get to most areas of the city without traffic jams makes the metro more and more in demand. The expansion of the underground transportation system lines has a positive impact on the development of the city, but it brings a number of difficulties not only in tunneling, but also in ensuring the reliability of all structures.
As you know, one of the most important problem in the construction of underground structures is to provide reliable protection against groundwater that can cause irreparable harm to a reinforced concrete foundation and building envelope. At the same time, it is also necessary to provide high-quality thermal insulation, one of the functions of which is to prevent condensation from appearing on the walls of stations and underground tunnels.
To ensure the reliability and long life of the new metro diameter in Sofia, TECHNONICOL materials were used. During the construction, more than 35.000 m2 of polymer-bitumen membranes Polyelast 4.0 mm and 6.000 m3 of extruded polystyrene TECHNONICOL CARBON PROF were applied on the object for waterproofing and thermal insulation of the supporting structure and the external vertical circuit.
